5 of the best and worst from Louis Vuitton

For luxury lovers, Louis Vuitton is one of the holy grail brands. The simplicity of the monogram and the chic designs are a luxury lover’s heaven. Even though luxury brand aficionados around the world stan the brand, there are some terrible pieces that have come out of the brand. So, let’s stop beating around the bush and just jump right into it! Let’s start off with the 5 best items from the brand.

Disclaimer: This brand is not vegan and accredited with beauty without cruelty, however this post is for my followers that enjoy high end/high fashion content. All pictures are from Louis Vuitton website.

The best of Louis Vuitton

1.     Bags

I know that the term 'bags' seems extremely general, but I’m talking about the coated canvas bags in particular, as well as the staple bags. The coated canvas bags are extremely durable, you can throw them into the ocean and honestly nothing is going to happen. The only thing to be worried about on the coated canvas bags are the vachetta leather accents, those will weather and stain without proper care. There are many designs of bags that come in coated canvas, without any vachetta leather, so that means you can live more of a stress-free life.

If you didn’t know, Louis Vuitton is part of the holy trinity of bag brands, so buying a staple bag from the brand can be beneficial in the long run. But, be careful which bag you’re buying, seasonal pieces and bags that contain color blocking or patterns (black, white, beige, red etc.), as well as the damier print don’t hold their value as well as the monogram staple bags do. Just as an example, the pochette accessoires, second hand, is selling for 300 dollars more than its retail price. This is because it is a staple bag, monogram print, coated canvas, doesn’t contain colour, and has a waiting list in the hundreds. Do your research on Louis Vuitton bags before you purchase one.

2.     Perfumes

The perfumes are done extremely well for a luxury brand. There are a lot of luxury brands that do perfumes that do not fit the criteria for me, as a luxury item. The scent of Louis Vuitton perfumes make you feel like you’re enrobed in luxury. The weight and design of the bottles are also extremely high end, and are some of the most long wearing perfumes on the market. Most of them retail at about $255.

3.     Luggage

Louis Vuitton luggage, specifically the trunk pieces and the Keepall’s are really great investment pieces. Louis Vuitton created their empire around the trunks that are rich to the touch and excellent for storage. However, the fun doesn’t stop there, recently people have been turning their trunks into coffee tables. Pop a sheet of glass on it and some centerpieces and you will ooze BOOUJEENESS! But, for the majority of us, it’s not really practical to have one, so in my opinion the Keepall is the next best thing. It is extremely hard wearing, it allows to be folded into a smaller flat sized bag for storage, and they will still look pristine. And if you buy them in a color, they are stunning statement pieces to your fit.

4.     Sunglasses

When I mention sunglasses I’m particularly talking about the plastic framed ones. Personally, I would not invest in the ones with metal frames/sides, as there have been many cases of them losing shape and becoming unbalanced. So, when it comes to buying sunglasses at Louis Vuitton, try and pick up a pair that’s made from acetate, which is similar to plastic. This material allows for flexibility without much damage. If you are thinking about picking up a pair, hop on over to the men’s section and take a look at the glorious 1.1. Millionaires sunglasses. These are in my opinion, the best sunglasses Louis Vuitton has ever done, and it looks incredible on both women and men. This design oozes money.

5.     Sneakers

If you’re going to invest in a luxury sneaker, I would definitely recommend a Louis Vuitton one. The sneakers are very high fashion and extremely hardwearing. The craftsmanship and build of the shoes are impeccable.

The worst of Louis Vuitton

1.     Rolling luggage

I know that I spoke about the trunks and the Keepall’s in the best category, but some of the worst luggage pieces from Louis Vuitton happen to be the rolling luggage pieces, like the hand/carry-on luggage. The monogram luggage carry-on comes with vachetta leather on the sides, as well as vachetta leather on the underside of the handle. This is, in my opinion a stupid decision made by Louis Vuitton, because the oils from your hands can very easily, and quickly discolor the vachetta leather whilst rolling the luggage.

2.     Seasonal pieces

As you know, Louis Vuitton is one of the holy trinity of bag brands as mentioned above, and that bags from the three brands hold their value and also appreciate rather well. Seasonal pieces however do not appreciate as much as you think it would. I have seen many people rush to buy the new seasonal collections when they drop and try to resell them at double the price, only to end up selling them below retail. Like I mentioned in the best section, only the staple bags in the monogram, without colors truly hold their value. The only exception to that rule are the vintage multi-color Louis Vuitton pieces.

3.     Neverfull

This MAY come as surprise to those of you that know me personally, because I have expressed on many occasions that I do want to one day get this bag, but recently I have been looking at other brands totes like MCM and Gucci, and here’s why. The first reason why I have put a specific bag into the worst category, is because literally everyone and their mom has this bag. It truly is the entry level Louis Vuitton bag, but if having the same bag as someone else doesn’t bother you, you go ahead, because it still is a really good bag! Another reason why it’s not so great, is that it sags very easily, because the bag has no proper structure. If you want to prolong the shape of the bag, try get an organizer, but it’s a temporary fix, and will eventually sag. The handles are also extremely thin, and since it’s such a big tote, you tend to stuff the bag quite a bit, this creates a lot of pressure on your shoulder or arm when the bag is hanging from it. Lastly, the bag doesn’t close, that for me, is a deal breaker.

4.     Shawls/Scarfs

The designs of the shawls and the colors are adorable, but, the exposed/raw hem leads to the threads coming out super easily, and it ends up looking raggedy and honestly, ratty after a few wears. It truly doesn’t matter how well you preserve the shawls, after 1 or 2 uses, the wear and tear is blatantly obvious. Spending 600 odd dollars for this, is stupid. If you’re in the market for a high-end scarf/shawl, rather pop into Hermes. Its luxury, its far classier and the shawls range from around 500 dollars to 1000+ dollars. 2020 is all about the classy, so give the LV shawl/scarf a skip this year please.

5.     Earphones

Why are Louis Vuitton making earphones? Are you going to get your nails done at a restaurant? UHM NO! I truly believe Louis Vuitton did put their all into making these and did get the best technology available to them, but come on now, these are not cute. Some of the neon color ones are alright, at most, but who is spending 1000 + dollars on these clearly very deep in the ear, invasive, non-statement earphones? Not me sis!
